Meet Jason Searle

a photograph of Jason Searle BSc(Hons) MCOptom Prof Cert Glaucoma.

He is a man in his mid 30s, with relatively short, dark brown wavy hair. He is wearing a pair of dark/navy blue wide rimmed glasses. He has a salt-and-pepper colouring of his very short beard and is wearing a black and white gingham shirt with the top button undone.

Jason Searle BSc(Hons) MCOptom Prof Cert Glauc. is a dedicated UK-based optometrist with a wealth of experience in eye care. His journey began in 2008 as an ophthalmic science practitioner at Bristol Eye Hospital. Realising his potential for growth, Jason pursued a degree in optometry and vision science at Cardiff University, graduating with First Class Honours.

With over a decade of experience across various practices and roles, including research and teaching, Jason has likely seen it all. Heโ€™s passionate about educating not just future optometrists but also patients and colleagues, ensuring everyone achieves the best possible eye health outcomes. Jasonโ€™s diverse background includes working in primary care, contributing to a major cataract study, and assisting in the glaucoma department at a local ophthalmology unit.

As a practicing optometrist and part-time associate lecturer, Jason brings his real-world insights into the classroom and beyond, helping others master the art of case history taking and the wider art of optometry. Heโ€™s committed to enhancing patient care through effective communication and thorough case histories, making your optometric journey smoother and more efficient.

Who Makes an Appearance?

The guide is beautifully illustrated using consistent themed prompts from the Midjourney AI image creating engine. Care has to be taken to giving any patient a name and a face and, whilst the cases are based on real encounters that Jason has encountered in the past, the names and likenesses have been changed to help protect the identities of the patients involved.

It can often be easier to retain and apply the knowledge gained from a lecture or a case study when a picture of the person it is relating to is included.

Therefore creating these characters have added another layer of authenticity to the encounters; not only increasing the learning experience, but also helping develop feelings of empathy and rapport.

Why are you charging for this content when a lot of your content is free?

Good question. It takes a considerable amount of time to produce this content, requiring hours away from both work and my family. When I am off work creating content, I am not being paid. Couple this costs of running the website, services offered and the printing of the book it leaves me running at a loss.

The royalties received from the book help to offset the cost of these outgoings and enable me to have time and finances to keep the website operational.

Can I have a sample?

Of course. Click the button below and you’ll be taken to a sample page. This character does not appear in the book – so downloading this one gives you an extra script to play with!
