I know I have been unusually quiet on the blog lately, but I promise there is a very good reason for my silence. For the past few months, I have been working frantically behind the scenes to build something truly special. I wanted to create a space that goes beyond simple blog posts or static advice; I wanted to build a genuine, interactive, and supportive optometry community for us.
Therefore, I am absolutely thrilled to finally announce the upcoming launch of “The Eye Care Advocate Community“.
Hosted by the MightyNetworks platform, I have designed this to be a purpose-built network for passionate ECPs. It is more than just a forum; it is a supportive optometry community dedicated to helping you become the absolute best optometrist you can be.
Why I Felt We Needed a Supportive Optometry Community
I started The Eye Care Advocate because I believe in the power of values, ethics, and “soft skills” in clinical practice. However, a blog is a one-way street, and I wanted a space for real connection.
Let me be clear about what this is not: this is not another OSCE training course, nor is it a “tick-box” exercise to get you through Stage 1 or Stage 2. Instead, this supportive optometry community is designed to help you navigate the complex, messy, and rewarding real world of optometry.
It isn’t a place for second opinions, nor is it a place to discuss specific cases (for that, I champion the brilliant “Ask Fellow Optoms” app!).
We are building a sanctuary where we can share our wins, dissect our challenges, and develop the crucial skills that make a great clinician – like taking better case histories and managing difficult patient interactions.

Unlock Expert Learning in Our Supportive Optometry Community
I want this community to be the resource I wish I had when I was starting out. That is why I have packed it with high-value content from day one.
Members will get access to my full course, “Ret Mess to Ret Success“. This isn’t just textbook theory; it takes a practical, step-by-step approach to the pitfalls and errors we all face with retinoscopy. I tackle exactly why problems happen, how to fix them, and share the pro-tips I use daily to master the technique. This is inspired by my post Static Retinoscopy 101 – one of the most utilised resources on this website!
Furthermore, you won’t just be learning from me. I have hand-picked a selection of industry experts who are ready to impart their knowledge to you. They are a key part of this supportive optometry community, offering mentorship and advice that you simply won’t find in standard textbooks.
Furthermore, all those that join the full access receive a digital copy of my “History and Symptoms: The Eye Examination” Book – available in the eBook space! This alone is worth £13. Physical copies can be purchased on Amazon for £16.99.

Gamification: Learning Sticks When it is Fun!
Who says professional development has to be dry? I believe learning sticks better when it’s fun, which is why this supportive optometry community features a fully integrated gamification system.
We all love a badge, right? You can collect unique badges for completing tasks, engaging in discussions, and mastering new skills. You also earn points for helping others, allowing us to recognise and celebrate the true team players within the group.

The feedback from my active trialists has been incredible so far; they tell me they love the encouraging atmosphere and the sense of belonging that is already growing.
Is This Supportive Optometry Community For You?
This space is aimed at pre-reg optometrists, CLiP students in their final year, newly qualified colleagues, and those in the early stages of their career. Undergraduate students are also welcome, although please make sure you don’t overload yourself with the extra courses offered.,
However, the appeal has been broader than I expected. Even my expert mentors have told me they enjoy being here, wishing they had a supportive optometry community like this when they were starting out. Whether you want to improve your clinical value, become a better team player, or simply find your tribe, this is the place for you.
If you are in a position to help guide early career optometrists and wish to get involved, please do get in touch with me at jason@theeyecareadvocate.co.uk.
